Modern Greek Language Teaching Center

CULTURAL EVENTS

The Modern Greek Language Teaching Center organizes visits to museums and archaeological sites each month, as well as excursions to areas of historical interest (Sounio, Delphi, Mycenae, Epidauros, Nafplio). The guided tours take the form of a lesson in accordance with the level of Greek knowledge of the students (beginner, intermediate and advanced). Students are prepared for these excursions with written and printed material, vocabulary exercises, historical information and discussions which take place in class. In this manner the excursions are incorporated into the main study programme.

The students are given the opportunity to form a more holistic image of Greek culture as the museums and archaeological sites visited represent the full spectrum of Greek history (Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, National Archaeological Museum, Museum of the Athenian Agora, Museum of Cycladic Art, Benaki Museum, Byzantine Museum and Folk Art Museum).

Films are also shown in class. The National Gallery and the Theocharaki Foundation are visited where they become acquainted with different periods of Greek painting (as well as other Greek painters who lived outside Greece such as El Greco).

Students may also attend theatrical productions based on the recommendations/suggestions of their teachers.
